Canada’s Western Gateway is a regional partnership focused on strengthening the transportation, logistics, and warehousing sector from Lethbridge down to the Coutts border. Our goal is to grow existing businesses, develop a skilled workforce, and attract new investment into the region. We’re building on the strengths of Highway 4 and Southern Alberta to create a more connected, competitive, and resilient trade corridor for the companies that operate here.

Meet the team

Rylan Howard

Industry Engagement Coordinator

Born and raised in Medicine Hat, Rylan moved to Lethbridge to pursue a degree in Marketing from the Dhillon School of Business. During this time, he developed a deep connection with the community, ultimately choosing to call Lethbridge home.

After completing his degree, Rylan began his career with Taber Economic Development, where he gained experience in labour force support, tourism, and event planning. After completing his contract with Taber, he was recruited by EDL to accelerate Canada’s Western Gateway.

Outside of his professional life, Rylan is actively involved in the local music scene. He plays bass guitar in the heavy metal band Nox Solaris and performs with local singer-songwriter Bridgette Yarwood.

I addition to his musical pursuits, Rylan is a director at large for the Lethbridge Medieval Club and also serves as a Combat Marshal, where he helps guide the practice of Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) within Lethbridge.

Brady Schnell

Cluster Development Manager

Brady is a passionate advocate and a pragmatic problem-solver. With a strong appreciation for hands-on work, the outdoors, and public speaking, he brings energy and clarity to every endeavor.

During his post-secondary education, Brady was elected to student leadership five times, demonstrating his commitment to service and governance. At Medicine Hat College, he served on the Board of Governors and as Vice Chair of the Academic Council. Later, at the University of Lethbridge, he contributed as a member of the Senate, the Budget Advisory Committee, and as Treasurer for the Canadian Alliance of Students.

Brady’s diverse professional background spans emergency medicine, construction, oil and gas reclamation, and more than a decade in municipal government and economic development. He has held leadership roles with the Town of Coaldale, Village of Champion, Town of Claresholm, the City of Medicine Hat, and Economic Development Lethbridge. In recognition of his impact, he was named Economic Development Officer of the Year in 2022 by Economic Developers of Alberta.

Though rooted in Southern Alberta for his home, education, and career, Brady is also a seasoned traveler. He has explored nine Canadian provinces, six U.S. states, and eight other countries including Japan, Germany, Ireland, and Brazil—experiences that continue to shape his worldview and inspire his work.

Brady credits his achievements to the unwavering support of his family and the love of his fiancée, Flavia.
